Acommodations

Dorms or twin sharing

  • Panoramic Views of Western Ghats from the Summit: The 2 km uphill trek leads to the peak of Pandavara Gudda (also known as Pandavara Betta), offering breathtaking 360-degree vistas of surrounding hills like Jenukallu, Deepadakallu, and misty valleys in the lush Western Ghats. The summit is a prime spot for sunrise and sunset watching, with fog-shrouded landscapes during monsoon adding a mystical allure, making it a photographer's paradise and a serene escape for nature enthusiasts.
  • Historic Bettada Byraveshwara Temple En Route: Starting near the 600-year-old Bettada Byraveshwara Temple (dedicated to Lord Shiva) in Maragunda village, the trail passes this ancient Dravidian-style black stone shrine with intricate carvings, believed to have connections to the Pandavas' exile from Mahabharata legends. The temple's peaceful ambiance, surrounded by forests, provides a cultural highlight before the 15-30 minute climb, blending spirituality with adventure in Sakleshpur's offbeat region.
  • Easy to Moderate Trail Through Lush Forests and Meadows: Rated as beginner-friendly yet challenging with steep sections, the 2-7 km round-trip (depending on extensions) winds through dense shola forests, open grasslands, and rocky paths, taking 1-3 hours one way. Trekkers can spot diverse flora, butterflies, and occasional wildlife like elephants in this biodiversity hotspot, with refreshing streams along the way—ideal for families or novices seeking a guilt-free workout without extreme difficulty.
  • Best Time and Offbeat Weekend Getaway from Bangalore: Optimal during post-monsoon (September-February) for cool weather, vibrant greenery, and fewer leeches, or winter for clear skies; this lesser-known Karnataka gem near Sakleshpur (about 220 km from Bangalore) serves as a tranquil, eco-friendly retreat with camping options and no entry fees, perfect for a rejuvenating day trip or overnight adventure away from crowded spots, emphasizing sustainable tourism in the Malnad region.
