About Gadaikallu Trek aka Jamalabad Fort:
Gadaikallu Trek in Belthangady Taluk of Karnataka offers an enjoyable trek, featuring forest trails, hill views, historic exploration, and stunning mountain vistas. The trek takes visitors to Jamalabad Fort, built by Tipu Sultan in 1794, as well as providing stunning vistas of the Kudremukh mountain range and an opportunity to observe wildlife in their natural environment. This 2-day trek offers the ideal combination of nature relaxation and exciting adventure, making it suitable for novice and seasoned trekkers alike. Beginning near Mangalore, the Western Ghats provide a scenic retreat while providing stunning photographic opportunities of some memorable moments during the journey homeward. As part of your return journey, you’ll visit Manjarabad Fort and Golden Temple as well! The journey begins with a short walk through the jungle before reaching the main rock with steps cut into it, which presents its most challenging stretch. Reaching its summit may take about an hour before rewarding you with amazing views of Kamalgad Fort and wildflowers; from here, it is also possible to spot Raireshwar Plateau. As you ascend, you will encounter remnants of an arsenal and a peaceful pond, as well as an intimate room-like structure thought to have served as Tipu’s military outpost.

The Gadaikallu Trek (Jamalabad Fort Trek) is a 5–7 km moderate-to-challenging hike in Karnataka’s Western Ghats, leading to the 1,700-ft summit with ruins of Tipu Sultan’s 18th-century fort. Expect steep, uneven rock-cut steps (1,876–2,000), taking 4–5 hours round trip. Enjoy lush forests, wildlife, and stunning Kudremukh hill views, best in post-monsoon
